There are three lakes at Petit Pretre. The main lake is approx 7.5 acres and was opened in 2008. We are now working on the Gun lake of 5 acres which will be opening at the start of the 2010 season. The lakes date back over 400 years when they were first occupied by Monks - hence the name Little Priest (Petit Pretre). They were 1st recorded during the reign of Louis XV who commissioned the famous cartographer Cassini family to produce details maps of France. We opened the main lake in mid 2008 and are now working hard to open the Gun Lake in 2010. The 3rd lake will be excavated and prepared for future years ensuring that our visitors will be able to return and experience the new facilities being developed each year. The main lake includes a large selection of carp ranging in size to 50 lbs. The lake record is currently 49.5 lbs with several more catches in the high 40's, and all growing to 50+lbs for 2010. There's a large number of 30+lbs too. All beautiful mirrors and commons plus a few linears too.
We have 8 single and 3 double swims on the main lake but restrict usage to a maximum of seven anglers at any one time. All paths and swims are covered with gravel and bark chippings. Each swim has a watering can for wetting the fish and the lucky captor! The Gun Lake, opening in spring 2010, will be stocked later this year with a good selection of carp ranging in size from 15 to 50+ lbs. It's ideally suited for small groups of up to 4 anglers who will be able to choose from the 5 swims available (3 double and 2 single). Plans and further details will follow shortly. |
